Santigold’s newest album is amazing from front to back, but this Diplo produced tune keeps it coming hard. She’s “so damn cold”.

If you haven’t heard of Mykki Blanco, he she is a transvestite Harlem based MC that tears up the mic.  Get over your initial shock that she’s completely upsetting the heterosexual hierarchy of Hip Hop, and you’ll see that Blanco’s got too much talent to be overlooked… especially when teaming up with DJ/Producer Brenmar, who absolutely murders it on the beat.  Get Wavvy.

Homies Leeboy and Marvel the Gr8 just put out a BIG single, titled “Get it”.  Leeboy, formerly the child star on All That, is all grown up, uncensored and always hilarious.  Good vibes on this one all day.  Shout out to J. Hyphen and Random Citizens on the beat.

Too much hip hop for you already?  Alright, lets get into it.  A-trak’s remix of Surkin’s “Never Let Go” is massive.  Yet again, Trizzy proves how much of a veteran to the game he is, by giving us something unusual, and breaking expectations of what the “A-trak sound” is.  At the same time, he retains his familiar electropop synth progressions, and hip hop influenced samples.  I can’t wait to hear his new Justice remix (coming out soon).

My boys, Ian and Dan, aka gLAdiator, just put out a remix of Butterbox’s “Human” that I’ve been lovin recently.  Moombahton and Hip-Hop fusion is what these boys specialize in, and this track makes that abundantly clear.

Sinjin Hawke has recently become one of my favorite producers.  His sound is so unique that I wouldn’t even know how to genre-fy him.  Most would categorize him with names like Flosstradamus, Lunice, or Hudson Mohawke, but even that doesn’t give a full picture of the depth of his sound.  Listen to his “The Lights” EP and you will be ENlightend.

The homie Cavalry just turned me on to Modeselektor’s new track, “Berlin”.  Needless to say, I’ve been hooked.  Such good vibes from this German duo.  They never cease to impress.

Flux Pavillion just put out a remix EP for his new “DayDreamer” single feat. Example.  Coming in at number one, in my opinion, is Jack Beats.  You can certainly hear the classic Jack Beats sound in the track, but it also has a very different composition than most of their material.  Still, the synth at the drop is something I’ve never heard before.  So crunchy.

Lastly, a quick update on my new material since I last posted.  Got 2 free remixes for you.  Both featuring my boy Marvel the Gr8.  I also premiered my debut music video for “Denzel Washington” off #RPC2 last week.

Wuzzup my peoples!?  April is here, so that means it’s time to lay my favorite tracks of last month on yuh.  This month was a whole new level of cool, as I got to take a trip with Korova to Miami for Ultra Music Festival weekend.  If I learned one thing while down there, it was that EDM is stronger than ever, and WHAT a massive movement it has become.  So let’s review:

Gesaffelstein.  One of the hottest up and coming acts in the dance scene right now, and the crowned prince of techno (second only to Boys Noize).  I have my eye on everything this guy does, and in addition to an absolutely destructive set at Annie Mac’s stage at Ultra, he’s been putting out some A class remixes lately.  Here’s his latest for the The Hacker…

Speaking of Boys Noize, Turbo Recordings just re-released his Erole Attakk EP from all the way back in ’06 on their soundcloud.  When I first heard it a couple weeks ago, I thought this was straight 2012 techno.  When I found out how old it really was, I couldn’t believe it.  Alex has, and always will be waaay too far ahead of the pack.  Timeless, and so hard.

Diplo.  El Jefe de Mad Decent, premiered his Express Yourself single this last month, in addition to a B side with Flinch and Kay, called No Problem.  BOTH of these tracks are so gawdamn hard, and have renewed my faith in Moombahton/108 bpm tempo music that has become so stagnant as of late.  You won’t find many dutch house blips in this stuff, instead both tracks are filled with uber catchy melodies, booty bouncing drops, and crispy, well placed lyrics that almost force you to sing along.

Flosstradamus have been consistently delivering since they debuted their Nu Trap sound that they became so notable for on their remix of Major Lazer’s Original Don.  Just last week, they put out another remix in the same vein.  This one is a new take on Ludacris’ What’s Your Fantasy and I promise, you will not be let down.  These two producers have finally found their niche.

My LA homies, gLAdiator, just released a new single called Wreck It.  Sticking to their influential Moombahton sound, the best way I’ve been able to explain this one is “Like sandpaper to the face… but it feels soooo good”.

My boy Nold put me onto this UK cat named A.Skillz recently, and after listening to his soundcloud for awhile, I came upon this remix of California Soul.  Some really feel good westcoast vibez from a producer outta the east.

I haven’t heard new house from Chocolate Puma in awhile, but the tight and tribal percussion they bring out in every track is unmatched.  This is one of their recent remixes for Nicky Romero.  Beautiful… until it goes HAM.

Melbourne producer, Bosstone, is making some next level experimental dance.  This single, LEAN, is so subtle, but so bossy at the same time.  I’m loving this sound lately.  Take a break from that in your face complextro, and have a listen to some nasty tunes that actually ask for your attention, instead of screaming at you.

Finally, I released Red Panda Chronicles Part II last week.  Check out Ben’s post on it here.  6 tracks, 6 different sounds.  You’re sure to find something in there that resonates with you.

The Kid and Korova are back again with the release of their second collab EP, Red Panda Chronicles Pt.2. RPC is is a work of a lot of love and a lot of time well spent. It sounds are a mix of deep introspective vibes crossbred with LA’s high energy electro scene. The bass lurks until the lead dissipates and the drums take over. There is this constant reverbed out water-drop motif reminiscent of that German techno/minimal breakdown that gets deeper and deeper calling for a warehouse party. The EP has been pre-released on BandCamp and in the upcoming month releases on iTunes, Beatport, eetc with an early-bird discount. Download if for $1 this week, next week it’ll be $2 and the following $3. It’s a steal of a deal, grab it now before it maxes out at $5.

Denzel Washington is different track altogether. It’s ghetto crunk step throwing back to their hip-hop roots but still maintaining it dancefloor sensibility. Plenty of claps in this tune and rightly so. Love the sampling.

Puma contains all the fire power to make it main stage, with an in your face outta control saw mixed with a hi pitched squealing synth at the   drop.  Hear this on big speakers because when it kicks in you’ll have one of those holy fuck moments, I promise.   The synth style is likened to that of firewall which is disturbing and off-putting yet thrilling and energizing, this style needs to be further explored, they might be onto something.

Mandarin is my favorite tune on RPC it’s got the perfect balance of that deep warehouse vibe mixed with that hi high-energy that’ll get people moving on the dance floor. It’s got enough flavor to keep it fresh and forward thinking enough to last in your DJ box for the next year, this one’s a keeper.

Bambou is going to be everyone’s club banger, this tune has a lot of loud in your face multi distorted saws that just twisting in every direction it possibly can. Certified dance floor ready.

Firewall is a deep tune that has a really minimal feel with deep techno bass and a 303 acid saw that rips its way through the intro. By  mid-song you’ll be getting deeper into this track as the percussion builds.

For his year of the Dragon track you find Swedish anthem sounds mixed with progressive house percussion that’s all wet and ready to slaps you in the face. It’s a song that’s constantly building, that’ll make you feel funky.

So another month of 2012 has already come to a close.  Damn, time flies. On my end, since I last wrote you, I’ve gotten to play Dim Mak Studios for the first time, opened for the one and only Munchi, threw two more Get Shifty parties, and finished the 2nd installment of Korov∆ and my continuous EP project, entitled “Red Panda Chronicles”.  Things are good.  Music’s been just as supreme.  So without further ado, here’s my chart for last month.

To start it off, I gotta give some big ups to DANCEiSM cats doing it right.  I’m referring to Dom Corleone’s remix of Better Must Come by zAm’X.  This is electronic music for true lovers.  Minimal sounding, 808 pounding, sneaky freaking, booty shaking, (should be) Dirtybird shit… and on top of it all, Dom’s got one of the coolest namedrops in the game.

Next up, the one and only A-trak.  He absolutely electrofied Martin Solveig’s “The Night Out”, but if you’re looking for that complextro ish, you won’t find it here.  We can call this NU Electro, or we can call this A-trak, or we can just call this H.A.M. … but whatever you decide, make sure you properly strap in before you blast this one.  Nutzo.

Speaking of complextro, you may have heard of Lucky Date.  This Chicago based producer doesn’t usually hit the target for me, but his “06″ remix of Do it in the AM, is phenomenal.  Maybe we should go back… I’m a much bigger fan of electro like this.  Throw one up if you feel me.

Munchi remixed Noisia, and the antiChrist was born.  Um… I think that’s really all I have to say about this one.

Now that you’re wondering if you just permanently lost some hearing, I’ll take it easy on yuh.  Mele is a UK producer that just recently did a Euro tour with Brenmar and Dillon Francis.  This remix was just featured in Diplo’s latest installment of Blow Your Head, and it’s gorgeous.

Brodinski is a superhero.  Two years ago Peanuts Club was my jam, but I never thought that he would become one of my favorite players in the game.  This is some of the best techno I’ve ever heard.  It’s absolutely mind blowing to me to hear how much control over the sounds Brody has.  This bassline is so heavy, and yet you constantly find it bouncing so lightly throughout the track.  If this won’t make you dance… fuck man, I donno what will.

Big bossman Diplo has been in the studio with Usher over the past couple of months.  Rumor has it that he’s producing a minimum of 4 tracks on Usher’s new album.  Climax is the first single to see the light of day, and what a way to start it off.  Since the day the track came out, it has already been critically acclaimed as a revolutionary sound for an artist who may or may not have lost a lot of credibility after working on dumb pop-house tracks with Guetta for so long…oops, did I say that?

Now, I can’t leave you without doing a little shameless self promotion. The above are 3 previews off my upcoming ‘Red Panda Chronicles: Part II’ EP.  In total, the EP is going to be comprised of 6 tracks.  At the beginning of every week until the release on 3.19.12, I’ve been putting up previews of each track.  Stay tuned for more in the coming days.  I’m really excited to finally be done with this new project, and to be at a point where I can start to show you all what’s been in the making behind the scenes for the last 3 months.  More on this one soon…

On a final note, I’m going to leave you with one of my new favorite hip-hop artists, Kendrick Lamar.  If you haven’t caught on yet, here’s your chance.  If you’re going to Coachella this year, he’ll be there as well.  To explain the way I feel about this track, I’m going to quote one of my friends recently, who said “Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best song to ever begin with the lyrics ‘Uh uh, fuck dat, eight doobies to the face, fuck dat!’”.

It’s been awhile y’all.  I guess I’ll start this thing off by apologizing for my lack of consistency on these monthly charts, but hey, I’m here now.  So lets get this thing started.  I got a bunch of new tunes that I’ve added to my arsenal this month, some of my own, some of my homies’, and some just too good to leave out.  Let’s start the show…

Starting things off heavy sounds good to me. Proxy still keeps popping up and surprising me with some really nasty productions. This remix of Azari and III couldn’t be further from the OG, but I absolutely love what he did with it. Feel good vibes, say goodbye, rave, say hello.

Mr. Oizo is another dude in the game that’s always had my support.  His new remix of Para One is another downtempo banger.  I’ve been loving this new style of dance thats been popping up from producers lately.  I don’t know if it’s the success of the moombahton movement that’s made producers want to explore lower BPM territory lately, but I love it.

Two KiD tracks up next. These are two 90′s joints that I absolutely loved back in the day, so I wanted to find a way to work them into my sets. The remixes were born. I have a new 6 track EP on the way in early March, so let these hold you over until then.

Gesaffelstein.  Probably my favorite artist at the moment.  I cannot express how excited I get everytime I hear one of his songs on big speakers.  Here’s a video I took of him and Brodinski at the Key Club a couple weeks ago, as well as one of my favorite tracks.

Gesaffelstein’s ‘Variations’ EP set an all-time record for feedback at Turbo. For a new artist to attract that kind of attention from such a broad cross-section of DJs is extremely special and a clear sign that he’s tapped in to something very, very big. To the younger generation of clubbers and DJs for whom the funtastic era of 2001-2003 revivalism was a missed experience, Gesaffelstein represents a double-breasted jacket of nostalgia for everything from the power of Industrial and 80s New Wave to the Gigolo-glam of early Kittin & the Hacker, Steril, Vitalic, Fixmer, and yes, Tiga.

We have no hesitation in declaring that he has single-handedly updated an entire genre, sharpened the edges, and notably traded in the camp and pastiche that made Electroclash a dirty word for a refined and stylish simplicity. The breakdowns are massive and very French, but never out of order. These are futuristic party bombs which skillfully draw from our favourite dance music of the last 30 years… and add more cowbell!

Homies are absolutely killing it with their productions lately. Jay Fay, an 18 year old cat currently based outta Missouri, is dropping some really fresh sounding moombahton to the genre lately.  I love me some tribal music, and the percussion on this track is so BIG.  It’s also pretty rare that I find a dance song where I like the beat and build just as much as the drop.  I approve of the song title Yung Fay.

Next up is the homie, ETC! ETC! on a track he did with Nacey, who is a whole other monster in  his own right.  Le Gran Zombi is mystifying and heavy at the same time.  The saxophone glues it all together on this one.  love it.

Not much to say about this new Planet Rock twist on Theophilus London except that it’s fucking nasty. I love the style that these boys have already developed for themselves. The good music revolution is coming, and Planet Rock is part of it. But hopefully you Danceism headz already knew that

To slow things down a bit, I want to take you into the high world of frenchman, Sam Tiba.  This fool first caught my eye last year with his massive tune, “Barbie Weed”.  Since then, I’ve been an avid follower of his soundcloud.  Recently he did a remix for an artist named Richelle on a track called “I Think”.  This record sat in my iTunes library for awhile until, after more than a few listens, I began to see the magic.  This is one of those tracks that will grow on you over time.  Tiba’s remix is so original, so weird, and so hard at the same time.  Shit makes me wanna shift in ways I never have before.

Lastly, I’m going to leave you with this gorgeous Gina Turner bootleg of James Blake.  This shit goes.  And I love how true to the original she kept the track.  If you’re DJing before 11PM some night soon, try this one out on the dancefloor.  Seriously.

October was a wonderful month.  Musically, I can’t say I was disappointed either.  As a bit of a preface, this is the first of what will become a monthly re-cap of some of my favorite tunes that I discovered over the last month.  Although I could go on and on about it, I’ve decided to keep my list somewhat brief to prevent me from sharing anything less than the most standout tunes. These songs are not ranked, and this post is viciously biased.  I ain’t gonna lie.  If you feel so inclined, comment back, and let me know what you think of my picks.  This is post is intended, if for nothing else, to stimulate discussion and thought on what’s going on in the dance scene right now from a purely sonic perspective.  Some of these will be songs you know, and some will be stuff you’ve never heard.  So let’s get into it.

To start things out, I have to pay homage.  In the dance scene, I don’t think there is a better way to remember the life and career of Mehdi Favéris-Essadi than to have one of the best DJs in the world record a tribute mix of his music for him.  Rest in Rave Mehdi.  I’m still missin.

Crookers took my love of electonic music and turned it into a fever in 2008.  With the release of their debut 2009 album, Tons of Friends, I began to lose faith that the Crookers that I loved so dearly would ever return… but I never gave up on em.  Well, they came back this year.  If you haven’t heard all of Dr. Gonzo yet, I suggest you get on it now.  This is one of the weirdest albums I have ever heard.  Period.  But by weird, I mean amazing, unique, futuristic dance music that screams, “We’re doing our own thing, and we don’t give a fuck if you like it or not”.  Phra, Bot, I love you guys.  Thank you.  Crookers are back.

I first heard this song by UK Garage artist, Gemmy, at the Mad Decent Block Party: Chicago this last August.  I was onstage with Kito when she dropped this bass heavy bomb about 3 tracks into her set.  I lost my shit, and proceeded to tweet her asking for a track I.D. until I got a response.  This has been one of my go to secret weapons since then… well I guess the secret’s out now.

If you haven’t heard the entire sophomore album from Xavier and Gaspard, titled Audio, Video, Disco, by now you need to get back on your game pronto.  This is almost anything but the Justice we heard on Cross, but it’s absolutely brilliant in itself.  Ohio is the 3rd track on the album, and seems to me to be an anthem that perfectly represents their sentiment on their last US tour.  Take some time with this song, and really pay attention to the lyrics.  You’ll see.  Aside from that, it’s also one of the best rock songs I’ve ever heard.  Once again, the best in the biz cannot and will not be classified.

Dan Aux hails from New Zealand, and this is the track that won me over to his sound.  Not to mention that the Gotye track featuring Kimbra is a complete smash in itself.  This track takes what’s already been done so well, and moves it into a club setting.

I love the original, but Brodinski is my boy… and he destroys this remix.  The vox are so fresh, and the bleepy synths that sprinkle the mix polish this thing up to one mean track.

I can’t say a ton about this track except that I just wanna go dumb every time I hear it.  I stumbled upon Go Buck!, a 19 year old east coast producer on soundcloud, and this track came out of nowhere.  I love the original, but the rolling electro synth in this, coupled with the catchy lyrics has garnered this song about a dozen plays in my iTunes.  I love it.  Check this guy’s other stuff too, he’s got mad potential.

BANGER BANGER BANGER BANGER.  If I were still an electro-head, this is what I would be listening to day and night.  Ado is bringing that heavy sound back without overdoing the noise. Nothing else to say, simply amazing.

PLANET ROCK!  I’m sure you guys have all heard this from Mr. Oprstu himself by now, but him, Dom, and ASAA have stumbled on something seriously unique and awesome.  This track’s gonna blow up.

We just can’t get enough Babylon, so Riton had to go and make a remix.  In my opinion, it’s better than the original.  ”FIYAAAAAA!”

This fresh new Moombahton goodness from ETC!ETC! & J.Trick is exactly the right amount of nasty without too much dutch bleep to make me wanna smack myself in the face with a frying pan.  It’s been amazing to see moombahton starting to truly evolve into its own genre, and these two guys are part of the leaders of the new school.  Keep an eye out for some live dates in LA soon.

Big. Bad. Wolf.  By now everyone and their mother has heard A-trak and Armand’s newest single, but I couldn’t leave it off this list.  This song has been one of my favorite tracks since Coachella 2011, and it deserves to be on every October chart ever.  Hate away if you’re not a fan, but I got endless love for the Sauce because of this techy banger.
