Santigold’s newest album is amazing from front to back, but this Diplo produced tune keeps it coming hard. She’s “so damn cold”.

If you haven’t heard of Mykki Blanco, he she is a transvestite Harlem based MC that tears up the mic.  Get over your initial shock that she’s completely upsetting the heterosexual hierarchy of Hip Hop, and you’ll see that Blanco’s got too much talent to be overlooked… especially when teaming up with DJ/Producer Brenmar, who absolutely murders it on the beat.  Get Wavvy.

Homies Leeboy and Marvel the Gr8 just put out a BIG single, titled “Get it”.  Leeboy, formerly the child star on All That, is all grown up, uncensored and always hilarious.  Good vibes on this one all day.  Shout out to J. Hyphen and Random Citizens on the beat.

Too much hip hop for you already?  Alright, lets get into it.  A-trak’s remix of Surkin’s “Never Let Go” is massive.  Yet again, Trizzy proves how much of a veteran to the game he is, by giving us something unusual, and breaking expectations of what the “A-trak sound” is.  At the same time, he retains his familiar electropop synth progressions, and hip hop influenced samples.  I can’t wait to hear his new Justice remix (coming out soon).

My boys, Ian and Dan, aka gLAdiator, just put out a remix of Butterbox’s “Human” that I’ve been lovin recently.  Moombahton and Hip-Hop fusion is what these boys specialize in, and this track makes that abundantly clear.

Sinjin Hawke has recently become one of my favorite producers.  His sound is so unique that I wouldn’t even know how to genre-fy him.  Most would categorize him with names like Flosstradamus, Lunice, or Hudson Mohawke, but even that doesn’t give a full picture of the depth of his sound.  Listen to his “The Lights” EP and you will be ENlightend.

The homie Cavalry just turned me on to Modeselektor’s new track, “Berlin”.  Needless to say, I’ve been hooked.  Such good vibes from this German duo.  They never cease to impress.

Flux Pavillion just put out a remix EP for his new “DayDreamer” single feat. Example.  Coming in at number one, in my opinion, is Jack Beats.  You can certainly hear the classic Jack Beats sound in the track, but it also has a very different composition than most of their material.  Still, the synth at the drop is something I’ve never heard before.  So crunchy.

Lastly, a quick update on my new material since I last posted.  Got 2 free remixes for you.  Both featuring my boy Marvel the Gr8.  I also premiered my debut music video for “Denzel Washington” off #RPC2 last week.

If you wanna keep your pants on thats fine, but dont be shocked when they explode into a million tiny pieces at that nasty drop a minute thirty in. You were warned. Grimy Moombawhore. Professor Angel Dust – Go (Munchi Thought Criminal Rmx) by Munchi

Not for the faint of heart, Munchi gets METHY (no, seriously, thats the only word I have for it) with this remix of Professor Angel Dust’s GO. P.A.D hails from Barcelona, and with his love of tropical funk beats, it’s hard NOT to loud this ravey upgrade. But really.. having trouble waking up in the morning? Cant seem to kick the Monday blues? Shit… quit complaining and bump this quick.

(STANDARD RANT ABOUT STEVE AOKI CENSORED FOR MY SAFETY.) Enjoy this fantastic Dillon Francis Moombahton remix of Earthquakey People! I honestly felt pretty nonplussed by Francis’s I.D.G.A.F.O.S as a single, but this remix has elements of that track that I am LOVING in this remix. So. Wet. So. 8-bit. Oh my god.

Were you lucky enough to catch Major Lazer at HARD HAUNTED MANSION this Halloween!?!? If you were, let me touch you, please.  You don’t even gotta look at me, man, just let me touch you, man. Come on, man.  This song. This. Song. If you thought Major Lazer was done with the face-fucking hits, you have not been properly introduced to the Original Don. In four minutes, they smash so much carnival-esque change ups you dont know which way is up . Silly Maxstaar, the Original Don I thought I knew and love was the diet version. I promptly shit a brick upon listening to the proper track. Enjoy.

Modeling for the Camera

This last Saturday, Mad Decent held their annual Block Party in Los Angeles. Even though I had limited access I was determined to conduct an interview with Dave Nada, the creator of Moombahton. I met him in the VIP area reserved for 21 and over, and as I asked him for an interview, he replied with a smile “Yeah, let me grab a drink and I’ll come back to do this interview” and as I was waiting in doubt if he would come back, he did with a drink in hand. We went to the smoke area to conduct our interview.

Danceism: Can you tell me your favorite Color, Food, and Cartoon?

Nada: Black, Empanadas, (specifically his moms) and Adventure Time

Danceism: Can you give me three words to describe Moombahton?

Nada: Oh wow! I would have to say Mid-Tempo Global Bass; I’m making Mid-Tempo one word.

Danceism: Electro House Helped bring everyone into the Dance Music Scene, Then everyone began branching out and separating into their own niches. Moombahton has kind of mashed potato’d all the great things about those Genres into one, and has caused a unifying effect with everyone. Did you ever expect Moombahton to do something so amazing and bring everyone together?

Nada: No, I never thought it was going to get this big and continue to grow so consistently. I’m more then happy that it has bridged people not only musically, but culturally as well. It’s allowed me to make friends allover the world, who also have nurtured Moombahton.

Danceism: Where do you see Moombahton in 5 years?

Nada: Hahaha I barely know where it’s going to be in 5 day’s.

Danceism: Any up and coming artists you want us to check out?

Nada: Yeah, check out these guy’s: Jwls, Steve Stark’s from Washington D.C.  and Boyfriend from Lithuania (as he talks a Girl sits next to us) Oh and this girl Zuzuka Poderosa!

Danceism: Where you headed to after the Mad Decent Block Party?

Nada: I’m heading to the warehouse after party, and then to Las Vegas for our Moombahton Massive.

Danceism: The Block Party was a Moombahton Massive in a way, how do you feel about the reception on West Coast and Particularly Los Angeles?

Nada: Oh man! Awesome reception on the West Coast, and the fan base keeps growing consistently.

Danceism: What Do you carry in your DJ Bag?

Nada: Just my laptop and headphones. I try to pack light.

Danceism: Anything you want to tell fans out there?

Nada: We’re barely at the tip of the iceberg for Moombahton. Expect some massive things to be released. Expect a lot of projects that are Moombahton base. If you thought 2011 was the breakout year, then expect 2012 to be the year to drive it home.

Danceism: What’s your inspiration to make music?

Nada: Life in general, I always been one to tell myself to keep a good balance and live your life. My inspiration is to go out there and tour the world. Just stepping out the box, touring, and meeting new people is what I find most inspiring.

Danceism: With whom do you want to work with in the future?

Nada: I really have worked with a lot of the people that I wanted to work with this year. I just want to work with like-minded individuals. Some of the people that I wanted to work with and had the chance to are some of the U.K. Cat’s doing it big in Europe, Just people with like-minded sounds; Just people that are pushing music to help bring a progressive and cultural movement.

Danceism:  Where do you get your music?

Nada: I’m privileged enough to be sent tunes via Sound Cloud and artist exclusives. That’s where all the gems are and where you will find amazing shit.
Danceism: Anything you want to add?

Nada: Yeah Man! Be on the lookout for El Baile Diabluma EP. Were also going to the Andes and Ecuador to shoot our video coming out this fall. Were working out here in L.A. to release music on Switch’s (Major Lazer) Dubsided Label. Oh! and getting ready for our Big Tour with Skrillex called :the Mother ship Tour. Were going all over North America.

This Friday, the world’s largest electronic music festival, EDC 2011 – dare I call it a rave? – will sound the clarion call of 110 dBA of soaring synths and heart-pounding bass, drawing approximately300,000 revelers to the heart of humanity’s party – Las Vegas.

The anticipation is almost unbearable.

I have analyzed and reanalyzed the line-up for EDC 2011, and while I can’t in all confidence say that my path has been determined, I’ve come up with my dream route through this aural candyland. If you’ll be there and you’re not sure who you want to see, or if you’re won’t but you want to experience it all (including the anticipation) vicariously through someone else, keep reading – I’ve got my picks, and even a few links so you can preview what is sure to be an incredible weekend. This post is about Friday – tomorrow will cover Saturday’s line-up, while Thursday will cover Sunday’s.

This one is a matter of respect. The Crystal Method are straight out of the second wave, and have heavily influenced the direction of the entire electronic scene; I’m curious to hear who they pay homage to in their DJ set. I’m not posting music here because this is a DJ set – they’re not playing their own music, so who knows what they’ll play.

Wolfgang Gartner – 10:45 to 11:45 – Kinetic Field

For some reason, I avoided Wolfgang until recently…perhaps the subliminal douchebaggery of hijacking the name of one of the greatest musical composers of all time simply turned me away like a bad smell. Once I started breathing through my mouth, however, my opinion quickly changed. He doesn’t write hooks, but rather creates steady, driving house beats with beautiful minor chords and basslines warped just to the point of being jagged. It can be haunting at times and exhilarating at others – I wouldn’t be surprised if Sonny Moore called him an influence. Borgore – 11:30 PM – 12:30 PM – Bass Pod

So influential in the dubstep scene that he has an entire subgenre named after him, Borgore is the creator and namesake of the dark, gothic, and ultraheavy “gorestep” – this is what Darth Vader would listen to while raping a t-rex dressed as a clown. I’ve wanted to see him since hearing his Passion Pit remix (linked below).

Drop the Lime – 3:30 AM to 4:30 AM – Neon Garden

I’m not going to Drop the Lime because I’m a huge fan. I’m just tired of Steve Aoki, and don’t want to stand at the back for Steve Angello (though, honestly, he killed it at Coachella). I’m also going to need an energy boost to make it through the night, and the bass Sex Sax makes me feel like I just plugged a battery into my spine.

Major Lazer – 4:30 AM to 6:00 AM – Neon Garden

This is a no-brainer; assuming they bring the whole crew (bumbaclots, babes, and all), Major Lazer is one of the most fun electronic shows I’ve ever seen. Plus, if the drop to Pnd de Floor doesn’t get your ass shaking…go home.

Major Rager was fuckin ridiculous. It was originally slated to be outside next to the airstrip under planes flying high, which sounded good. BUT as the date neared it soon became apparent that rain, and the cold had to move the party inside. Moving inside totally changed my expectations for the event, and I was totally blown away from the experience. Imagine 2,500 people all rocking out, going crazy having the time of there life sweatin, jumpin, screamin. The AC was busted and the heat indoors was immense, but it made it a totally different experience I think everyone was down with. It was raging in 125 degrees. Dillon Francis was an amazing surprise to have as a guest, he just threw it down in so many ways that I never expected, dubstep, moombah, electro, whatever you wanna call it, Dillon made it special. Diplo of course delivered on all accounts with his hyped arrival and his own crew throwin Champagne & water on the crowd, airhorns and all. Later towards the end of the set the condensation from all the sweat broke some of the DJ electronics and I had an opportunity to do a beatbox  freestyle w/ Diplo on stage. That made my night!

I think for many, including myself and the whole DANCEiSM crew, Major Rager was a night to never forget. It took our epic party production to the next level, and to say that I beatboxed with Diplo is on my achievement badge

Dom Corleone also passed me his heavy booty bass remix of Pon de Floor for this event. The crowd went nuts when this dropped.
