The fellows over at Gem Drops put together quite a sick LP of various forward thinking future sound producers in one big collection. Gem Drops 2 is being given away for free, but you if you can afford to donate some, the proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

There’s some great gems in this lot which is described as an electric melange of uptempo and downtempo jams, hazy dream melodies, and space station future-flights.

In a move that adds to the growing consensus that the mainstream loves Dubstep, EA Games has commissioned several big time dubstep producers Nero, Skrillex, Flux Pavilion, and Digitalism (NOT DUBSTEP) to produce some slick remixes for the upcoming brutal video game, Syndicate.

A nice Dubstep edit to Skrillex’s moombahcore, dancefloor hit. Not bad for a 13 year old kid out of Canada

I know that this track is 7 months old, so don’t call me out on that. I’m sharing this track out of pure fanboyism. Once you go Andy’s iLL, you never go back! I love the fact that he took this great Metal tune and fucked the shit out of it with the touches of Dubstep, while still staying true to the original. Though, it’s worth noting that I don’t think this track will appeal to all types of Dubstep fans due to the intensity and heavy elements of the track. Aside from that, I hope you peeps get the same chills I get from this track when I blast it through my speakers and headphones!

I believe Dubstep and talented female vocalist were meant to go hand in hand. The latest release from Traxione, in collaboration with River Accorsi, is a great example of my belief. What takes ‘Without You’ above and beyond is the great care and work that went into the finer details… The build-ups, the breakdowns, the synth work. The track is beyond amazing, it’s what I dare to call a masterpiece… A four minute, seven second masterpiece.

Getting away from Dubstep, just for a sec. The Bolivian Marching Affair (TBMA, for short), remember them after this. The tri-pod out of Boston/New York already has huge supporters that include the likes of Nero, High Rankin, and Skrillex. This Drumstep makeover on the 2002 smash hip-hop hit by ‘JD’ and company is huge! It’s such an awesome tune, it’s constantly being played on my practice sessions recently and I can’t wait to play it at a gig when the chance is presented.

There was a Q & A afterwards and all the artists came down and were interviewed by NPR’s Jason Bentley. They discussed the artistic process and what is was like for them to work with such great legends and essentially make music that was somewhat different than what they are used to. Especially Pretty Lights, who admitted he was not excited when he learned he was given country. (who would be?!) Skrillex provided the metaphor of making music to sex – “It’s very intimate,” he said and proceeded to explain what he felt as the cameras were in the studio recording everything he did. Overall, everyone agreed they were honored to have been a part of the project and they all congratulated each other for the work they did.
