Versus ft. BetaTraxx

versus Versus ft. BetaTraxx

BetatraXx, a name that is entirely synonymous with L.A. electro and all things glittery, grimy, synth magic, will be headlining Versus this coming Thursday. Born from the internet, a favorite with music blogs worldwide, BetatraXx, has made a permanent mark on the Los Angeles music scene with tunes that hit so very hard with filthy grinding bass, but are also completely lucid and well-produced, perfect noise for a wild Thursday night. As always, free with RSVP until 11 pm so get there early, you don’t want to miss this night!

Versus Artist To Watch: Charles I

Charles I Photo Versus Artist To Watch: Charles I

Charles I, Los Angeles native and up-and-coming robot royalty, is breaking out with glittery droid tracks that are both not to heavy and not too soft, just right. After releasing his “Out of this World EP” just last year to rave review, Charles has been building up his sound drawing from an internal feeling of rebellion, of mainstream perpendicularity, of raw danceable music. Below, exclusively on Danceism, are two brand new remixes as well as an original track and a damn near flawless hour long mix, all for your downloading pleasure. This Thursday, Charles I will be performing at Versus alongside Betatraxx and it is bound to be a wild, synth-filled evening, that will not be soon forgotten.

Mat Zo – The Bipolar EP and Show at Voyeur SD

Mat Zo The Bipolar EP and Show at Voyeur SDIf house music is therapy, Mat Zo is freaking Freud himself. His smooth and melodic grooves take you to a place of zen and outright happiness. But then he amps you up and takes you to an ecstatic, euphoric blur of hard hitting beats. Hence the name of his upcoming release –  The Bipolar EP.  Check his Soundcloud for a peak to see what I mean.

This cat is on the up and up. I’m sure you’ve heard “Mozart”, his track featuring Arty, that has the approval from people like Axwell, Radio 1 and Skrillex, so make sure you catch him this Saturday the 25th in San Diego at Voyeur. Get yo tickets now kids! Mat blends influences from the likes of Daft Punk, Diplo and Deadmau5 all into his own unique and amazing sound. I dig it. His tracks go from crazy carnival sounds to melodic synths, back to bass heavy explosions. I like to be built up and then brought back down only to be picked back up again… ha.. yeah… only in regards to music… *cough*

Oh! And if you’re going to be in Miami for UMF he’s playing at the Above and Beyond party at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater on March 22nd. Tickets on sale now. http://ultralive.tix.ticketjunkie.net/UltraLive/calendar.aspx

RE:Generation Premiere & Free Music from Skrillex, Pretty Lights, DJ Premiere, Crystal Method, and Mark Ronson

I had the privilege of seeing the premiere of the documentary “RE:Generation” featuring Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Mark Ronson, The Crystal Method, and DJ Premiere last week and I must say it was pretty damn good. Each DJ was assigned a genre of music and had to orchestrate a song based on said genre. Luckily each DJ had the help of some pretty bad ass OG musicians – Skrillex had the help of the last remaining members of The Doors; Mark Ronson had the help of Erykah Badu and Mos Def; and so forth. Here’s what each genre each artist had:

As I was watching I couldn’t help but be inspired by these great artists who were out of their element, yet thriving and creating. Coming up with lyrics, laying down the tracks, and bouncing ideas off other studio musicians. It really made me appreciate and respect these guys even MORE than I already do. I’m sure you’ll feel the same after you watch. If you want to hear their work go to http://www.youtube.com/hyundaiusa?x=us_regeneration_406 to hear their original tracks.  At the end of the doc, each DJ premieres their song at a live festival and you can just feel the energy of the crowd and see why they love what they do, and why we love going to shows.

There was a Q & A afterwards and all the artists came down and were interviewed by NPR’s Jason Bentley. They discussed the artistic process and what is was like for them to work with such great legends and essentially make music that was somewhat different than what they are used to. Especially Pretty Lights, who admitted he was not excited when he learned he was given country. (who would be?!) Skrillex provided the metaphor of making music to sex – “It’s very intimate,” he said and proceeded to explain what he felt as the cameras were in the studio recording everything he did. Overall, everyone agreed they were honored to have been a part of the project and they all congratulated each other for the work they did.

The documentary has a limited theatrical release: today February 16th and next Thursday the 23rd only so check out http://www.regenerationmusicproject.com/ for times and locations. You definitely do not want to miss this! (FYI it’s showing at the Grauman’s Chinese Theaters in Hollywood!)

Bonobo Eyesdown (Machinedrum Remix)

Bonobo’s Eyes Down by Steve Glashier Bonobo Eyesdown (Machinedrum Remix)

This visually stunning animated music video of a remix for Bonobo‘s super chill track ‘Eyesdown‘ features a mad genius attempting creation of a new entity. The animator Anthony Schepperd did a great job filling it with geometric color explosions.
