Can you hear it!? Can you smell it!? Can you TASTE IT!? The line up for Coachella has been announced, and Black Friday is upon us. For those of you that managed to push through the Hipster Purgatory known as “The Waiting Room” paitently awaiting your turn to purchase tickets, I salute you. For the others that begrudgingly purchased presale tickets in June (like myself), high five… it fuckin sucked to have to think about it right after getting home from the Festival, but my bank account is thanking me. For those of you that have zero interest in attending, I hope you find a festival that suits your tastes (Check out Raychel’s article on LIB Fest!)!! For the handful of you that simply sneer every year and continually post shit like THIS on your facebook: your jokes are basic, reused and tired. Nobody is here to listen to you get mad about what we choose to spend our money on. You dont like the line up? Welp. it’s a good thing you’re not going, huh?
Glad that’s off my shoulders. Let’s move onto the music, and begin to explore some acts that will be on the Festival circuit this year–starting with Coachella in April!! I’m going to start chill this week, our hearts have been racing enough with all this Coachella ticket drama, so let’s sit back and relax…
THE RAPTURE SAIL AWAY CUT COPY REMIX by DFA Records
Cut Copy brings almost a vacation vibe to this track with their classic Cut Copy drums and dancey beats. Makes me want to grab the closest person and make out. Forever. Until our faces melt into eachother like the time I left my barbies on the backseat of Mom’s car when we went to Cedar Point to ride the rollercoasters all day… RIP Lesbian Siamese Twin Barbies.
Amon Tobin – At the end of the day by youareadonkey
Named after the perfect time to enjoy this track… the fusion of Jazz and Hip Hop in Amon Tobin’s music makes for an amazing trip hop experience. I never knew what an INSANE SET UP Amon Tobin had… look at that shit!! Seriously, watch that video and try not to shake, what beautiful video/engineering work.
Beirut – Nantes (Fredo & Thang Disco Remix) by Chris Will
Way to take a perfectly brilliant song and make it into the most relaxing chill track I could ask for. I love that Fredo and Thang kept some of the vocals to make it super dreamy. Makes me want to wander around in a field of daisies. It’s labeled a disco remix, but I think this falls more chill than the genre label leads on. No matter. They’ve kept some of the vocals, although they’re super filtered, but it gives the track some roots and familiarity, and I genuinely enjoy relaxing to this track.
of Montreal – Sex Karma (St. Vincent Remix) by Polyvinyl Records
St. Vincent loops the dreamiest sections of this trippy sexy song and makes it into something beautiful. Sounds like something you should play while watching videos of flowers bloom. Calming.
Dont be sad if you didnt get Coachella tickets, babies. Don’t run straight to EBAY (The scalpers will make you throw up)… just hold off and wait a month until the insanity dies down. I had an extra ticket to sell last year, and by March NOBODY was willing to pay over face value, so I ditched it for face value and broke even. If you’re diligent, you will find affordable tickets! Remember to give other festivals a chance too! Sasquatch, Outside Lands, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Ultra, Lightning in a Bottle, Burning Man… I can go on! Chin up!!
