South Lake Tahoe, a heavily ever-greened area, marked by Heavenly Ski Resort, the notorious stateline, and a populace that is predominantly dreadlocked art-folk, winter sports enthusiasts, and the elderly. To outsiders it’s often considered a sort of tumbleweed cousin to the excitement of the North Lake. However, this past weekend, all of that changed. Snow Globe Music Festival slid into town and ignited a spirit, a certain liveliness within the South Lake that was previously entirely unseen. Whether it be the roving bands of spirithood-clad teenagers or the melodic sub-quake imminating from the South Lake Tahoe Community College football field, something special happened this New Years, something that we hope will return year after year. Over the next few days here at Danceism, we will unwind from the experience in hopes to reminisce with all our viewers who attended as well as to convince others to make that trip up to the South Lake in just 12 short months. There will be tracks, set reviews, and artist interviews, all culminating in a very special, exclusive interview with none other than The Glitch Mob.

December 30th, 2011, for me, will always be known as the day Madeon changed my life. Given, there were some amazing acts that day, Dilated People’s DJ Babu scratched like hasn’t been seen since the 80′s, Theophilus London threw down an incredible set despite sound problems, and Bassnectar was, as always, epic beyond all rhyme or reason. That being said, the way that 17 year old Frenchman performed was unlike anything this young writer has ever seen before. He mixed in the funkiest of disco, the hardest of electro, and even some old-school Blur all with his mom standing right behind him on stage. Put simply, the kid has swagger, he can work the crowd and feed off their energy, all without speaking a word. It was a dirty, sweaty dance party that Snow Globers wished would never end, initiated by an unbelievably producer who performs like a veteran. Keep your eyes out for Madeon, because he will be a staple in Disco and all of EDM for many years to come.
