The man, The Myth, The Legend; Louis La Roche is a powerhouse Producer. He is renowned for his French touch style EP’s and continues to amaze us. Barely 21 years of age, he has a long and successful future ahead of himself. His upcoming album to be released and many remixes to come out. Big things for Louis in 2012. So let’s get this show on the road.
Danceism: What’s your name and where are you from?
LLR: My name is Brett Ewels, better known as Louis La Roche. I’m from Norwich, UK.
Danceism: Favorite Color, Food, Cartoon?
LLR: Grey, lots and lots of grey.
Danceism: Describe your sound in 3 words?
LLR: Less Is More
Danceism: You recently released a DJ Shadow Remix under EWE. What does EWE mean? Has this become your production name for other none French-Disco house projects?
LLR: EWE is a play on my last name ‘Ewels’. An Ewe is a female sheep. I’m planning an EWE album for next year; it’s a new sound for me. I’m not leaving LLR behind; I’m just creating another alias.
Danceism: You created a song in homage to Los Angeles. Does the city have a special place in your heart? What inspired you to make this song?
LLR: California is where the highest number of my fans is. I know L.A really wants me out there, the demand is high. So Los Angeles is just a track to say that I’m coming, a promise.
Danceism: You have become a heavy weight in the French House Scene, what do you contribute to your success?
LLR: Time, patience, and detail. You have to bare in mind, when LLR started in 2008, there was no revival of French House. It’s back now and it’s a strong scene, but I don’t count myself a part of it. I listen to very few people from the new scene. If people are inspired by what I do and want to join this new scene, great, just don’t count me in.
Danceism: French House has become huge in United States, how do you feel about the growing popularity?
LLR: It’s great, as long as the scene stays strong enough. The right people need to represent the sound. My main problem/worry with this new generation of FH is that the artists within the scene aren’t as close of the scene before in the 90′s. The bond isn’t as tight. In order for it to survive people need to help each other out. Promoters need to book artists together as a party. It’s stronger in numbers.
Danceism: Where do you see Disco-French House in the years to come?
LLR: It’s forever changing. New influences, new sounds and techniques. For me personally, I’d like people to move away from the House sound and experiment more. People forget that the ‘French Touch’ sound isn’t all about House music. Just listen to the first Cassius album and you’ll see what I mean.
Danceism: So you once mentioned your desire to come to California, Any luck with planning your tour for California?
LLR: I have 4 different agency companies based in the US all watching. I’ll get the next single out early next year and then I’ll sign to whoever gives me the best deal.
Danceism: What’s your inspiration to make music?
LLR: These days’ new toys mostly inspire me. New synths, plug ins, techniques. It’s through the hours of experimentation that inspires me to create something new to me. It’s new to my ears, new to my way of working.
Danceism: What music Projects are you working on now?
LLR: The Louis album is done. The EWE album is my focus for now. I’m also working on lots of remixes for next year and collaboration with Vanguard.
Danceism: Whom do you want to work with in the future?
LLR: For me it’s always singers. I want to get more stuck into being an actual Producer rather than a DJ/Producer. I don’t like to name people because I don’t feel it’s natural to approach people, I’d rather they approach me.
Danceism: What do you carry in your DJ Bag?
LLR: My laptop, An APC40, lots of wires/adapters, Beats headphones, I keep it to a minimum. I’ve always wanted to bring more on the road with me, but it’s just the hassle of more bags and the price of sending them from A to B.
Danceism: Anything you want to tell your fans out there?
LLR: Thanks for the support; you continue to be loyal even as my sound changes. The next single with surprise a lot of people. It’s a risk, but one worth taking.
