We all love French House and even if you know it or not, you do too. Daft Punk is French House, but the sound has been limited, taking a back seat to Harder Electro and Trance style sounds. There are those few that still push it for the soul purpose to groove out. One of the big proponents of Disco- French House is The Disko Starz. I was able to get a friendly interview, and i hope you enjoy.
Danceism: What is your favorite: Color and food?
Disko Starz: Black and Middle Eastern food.
Danceism: Where are you from?
Disko Starz: Los Angeles, Cali
Danceism: How did you get into French House?
Disko Starz: It all started in 2007. I was in my car during work and I had my laptop. I had Steinberg Cubased (installed) and I had been messing around with the program for a while. I was listening to some tracks by Tyshaun (Galaktik Knights) and told to produce some tracks like the ones I was listening to. So here we are in 2011 Banging shit out our software.
Danceism: What are your musical influences?
Disko Starz: It’s all about Daft Punk! Our musical influences are all the good artists who sample classic Disco Samples. There are so many artists from the old days, but Daft Punk is definitely the father of French- Disco House music.
Danceism: Describe French house in three words?
Disko Starz: Very Fucking Special!
Danceism: French house was driven to the mainstream with Daft Punk, but now it claims a smaller loyal niche in the dance music world. Where do you see French House music going in 5 years?
Disko Starz: If all the great French house producers keep up with the movement, it will be big in five years.
Danceism: Any French-Disco house artists we should check out?
Disko Starz: Some of the artists I’m digging right now are my buddies: Ice Cream, HARDTOPRONOUNCE, and Kreap.
Danceism: What do you carry in your DJ bag?
Disko Starz: My Mac book pro, external hard drive, and a Vestax midi controller.
Danceism: Anything you want to tell your fans out there?
Disko Starz: Keep listening to our music and in general French House. Thanks for the support.
Danceism: What’s your inspiration to make music?
Disko Starz: These beat’s, when they reach your ear. It takes you to a higher level. Like our friends said “It’s a soul thing, and body thing”
Danceism: Whom do you want to work with in the future?
Disko Starz: As for now we are good, but we can’t predict the future. So we’ll see.
